"Blue Jay" Magnet

Materials Required to make 1 (one) magnet:

  • 7 count mesh plastic canvas

  • Yarn (worsted weight or yarn #4 size) in the following colours: dark blue, light blue, black, white, light green

  • Embroidery floss in the following colours: brown, black

  • One piece of felt same size as finished piece

  • Sewing thread

  • One magnet



Instructions:

  1. Cut out plastic canvas shapes as per diagram. The overall size of front piece is 28 holes high by 17 holes wide and back piece is 22 wholes wide by 36 holes high

2. In corresponding yarn colours, fill in the tent stitches, straight stitches and cross stitches as per diagram below.

3. In corresponding yarn colours add the straight stitch details as per diagram below.

4. In embroidery floss, straight stitch the remaining details as per diagram below.

5. Using the overcast stitch, finish the edges in corresponding yarn colours: white for tail tip, dark blue for body and light blue for remainder.


6. Using the backstitch and sewing thread, sew a piece of felt to the back side of the plastic canvas, slipping a magnet in between the felt and canvas before sewing or gluing the last edge.
